About Us

Nestled in the rolling hills of Western Massachusetts, Quabbin Valley Folk is a community-rooted ensemble dedicated to preserving and rekindling the living folk tradition of New England, with a special devotion to the songs and stories of the Quabbin Valley and its surrounding towns.

We perform a rich blend of traditional ballads passed down through generations, newly composed songs that reflect contemporary life in our region, and rediscovered pieces tied to the history, landscapes, and people of the Swift River Valley and beyond. From haunting tales of the lost towns beneath the Quabbin Reservoir to celebrations of seasonal rhythms, hard-won resilience, and small-town joy, our music carries the unmistakable accent of home.

Our harmonies are built on acoustic guitars, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, upright bass, and the occasional squeeze of a concertina—always unamplified in the old style when the setting allows. We believe folk music is best shared face-to-face: in living rooms, at contradances, on library lawns, around campfires, and in the historic town halls that dot our valleys.

Whether we’re singing a 19th-century broadside, a labor song from the mills of Ware, or an original tune about the quiet return of the loons to Quabbin’s waters each spring, our aim is the same—to honor the past, speak to the present, and keep the tradition alive for whoever needs its comfort and fire.

Thank you for listening, singing along, and walking these back roads with us.
